What Mitzi Will Do for You.
As your editor, I will ensure that your manuscript is the best it can be by eliminating common errors, such as missing and misused words, correcting grammar and punctuation in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style, and pointing out inconsistencies within the story. I specialize in copy editing and proofreading, and my priority is to maintain your voice as an author while making your work shine! In addition to the Chicago Manual of Style, I utilize the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Oxford Dictionary, and Grammar Girl. I will use other resources upon request.
Editing and proofreading are important steps that many self-published authors overlook. I am committed to respecting your personal style of writing while assisting in making it the best it can be. Poor editing detracts from the story and shapes the reader experience, which goes a long way in determining if they will come back for more.
“As an author, I know how costly hiring a professional editor can be, but what I've learned is this: Don't assume that your eyes will catch all of your mistakes. There is simply no substitute for having someone with knowledge and expertise take a second look.”—Brandi Salazar
Remember, you only get one chance to make a good first impression, so let me help you make it a great one.
Don't wait! Slots fill quickly. Reserve yours at least one month ahead.
PLEASE NOTE: Books that need excessive editing outside of the package may lead to extra fees. If this should happen, the fees will be discussed with the author before any work is done. Additionally, the Copy Editing package listed below includes a second edit and a proofread after the author reviews changes.
Copy and Line Editing (Includes proofreader’s fee)

If you're interested in just editing or just proofreading, please feel free to inquire.
A copy editor is usually the last person who touches the text of a manuscript before it goes into production.
The goal of a copy edit is to address flaws on a very technical level – to make sure the writing that appears on the page is in accordance with industry standards. Think high-end proofreading. (Typical turnaround time is approximately 10-14 days from date received. Weekends and holidays are not included in count.)
A copy edit:
Corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
Ensures consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization
Flags ambiguous or factually incorrect statements
Maintains internal consistency.
Internal consistency means checking that your plot, setting, and character traits don’t have discrepancies. For example, if on page 50 you write: John sat in English listening to a lecture, and then on page 52 you write John wished his science teacher would stop talking, it’s a copy editor’s job to point that out.
2018 TERMS AND CONDITIONS
It is a client's responsibility to review the Terms and Conditions to ensure that they not only understand them but are aware of any changes that might occur.
MANUSCRIPTS should be submitted in Word, Times New Roman, size 12 font, double spaced. If they are not, I will change them to make the editing process easier.
GENRES I prefer to work with include, but are not limited to:
Romance (Dark, erotic, humor, new adult, contemporary, etc.)
If your genre is not listed, just ask. I am open to a wide variety of subjects.
AUTHORS are responsible for getting their books to me by the date agreed upon. If I have not received it within two days of the agreed-upon date, I will move on to the next in line, unless I have an email from the author and we agree on other terms.
PAYMENT is accepted through PayPal. An invoice will be sent through PayPal once upon receiving the manuscript and once when the edit is finished. I reserve the right to withhold your manuscript until final payment is made in full, upon which time it will be returned. If you choose to cancel your service once it has been started, a $100 cancellation fee will be deducted from the initial payment. If all work is completed, but final payment is not made, I reserve the right to withhold the manuscript indefinitely and without return of initial payment made. No exceptions will be made unless the author has contacted me beforehand to make other payment arrangements. Because fees can be pricey, if you find the need to make payments outside of the 50/50 rule I have outlined, that can also be arranged.
RUSH JOBS will incur a fee dependent on length and time given to complete. The starting rate is $100, and it goes up from there.
PLEASE be aware that I am NOT a developmental editor. I am first and foremost a copy editor. This is by choice. If you have need of a developmental editor, this should come BEFORE you contact me for copy editing or proofreading. If—after I start an edit—I find that your book needs extensive work beyond the service selected, all work will stop, and the author will be contacted. To help ensure that this doesn't happen, I ask that the author sends me a sample from the middle of the book before committing to any service.
CANCELING your service will not result in any fees. However, my time is precious and limited. Please be respectful and let me know at least two weeks ahead of time if you cannot keep your appointment for any reason so that someone else may utilize that spot.
HOLIDAYS and weekends DO NOT count toward the amount of time given to edit your manuscript. Those times are spent with my family. Those days will be accounted for when given the final return date for your manuscript.
**I reserve the right to refuse any and all manuscripts at my discretion.
Every effort will be made to provide a quality experience, but editors and technology are fallible. Please report typos or other issues to me immediately. After all, you’d tell a girl if she had lipstick on her teeth, right?
In addition to the above, I like to be credited as editor and a mention of my proofreader as well. If you put out a paperback, I would like to receive a signed copy for both my proofreader and myself for our library. It is my custom to always purchase the e-copy of your book.
*** Please note that we are only human, and as such, we aren't always perfect. If you notice any mistakes in your manuscript, please bring it to our attention prior to publication so we can fix it and make it right immediately.
